Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA)
April 14, 2003, was the effective date for compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (“HIPAA”) and the Privacy Rule promulgated thereunder, and April 20, 2005, was the effective date for compliance with the HIPAA Security Rule. Together, the Privacy Rule and the Security Rule enact standards for the confidentiality of protected health information (PHI) that is created, stored, and/or transmitted electronically or non-electronically.

How ChartOne Complies with HIPAA.
As a Business Associate, ChartOne believes that compliance with HIPAA is an essential factor underlying the effective delivery of its services. ChartOne’s Executive Team, Chief Compliance Officer, Legal Counsel, and Operational staff, many of whom have HIM credentials, have actively reviewed, interpreted and implemented the Privacy Rule and Security Rule standards in ChartOne’s daily operations. ChartOne has implemented administrative, physical, and technical safeguards that appropriately protect the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of PHI. ChartOne also works closely with national and local HIM organizations, outside legal counsel, and government representatives, to ensure ongoing compliance with the Privacy Rule in a manner that meets the needs of the health care and HIM community.
